Early Diagnosed Dementia Group

This group exists to provide support and information to individuals with a recent diagnosis of dementia through a six week semi structured educational programme. The shock of receiving a diagnosis, fears about the future, trying to come to terms with potential losses and new life adjustments are areas that people with dementia need support with.

In addition to the educational component, the support group allows people with dementia to communicate with others with similar experiences in a meaningful way without fear of being judged, and to discuss openly and informally their difficulties and concerns and how best to cope with them.

The Social Group

Following the introductory group, the members are given the opportunity to meet socially on a fortnightly basis which allows for the continuation of strong relationships which have been built with each other and staff, and a feeling of acceptance. The group adopts the principles of living life to the full and being as independent as possible. It also focuses on what a person with dementia can do.

Social Group Activities include:

  • Ten Pin Bowling

  • Art Projects

  • Visits to places of interest
